Celebrating Lois Pondikou's 6th and Leanne's 12th birthdays

By Joanne Kanau and Kanau Sion

End of each year is always filled with gatherings and parties, chief amongst the events are Christmas, boxing day and new year celebrations. Coincidentally, two of our daughters' birthdays fell around the same time and only one day apart. Lois Pondikou, our fourth daughter's 6th birthday was celebrated on the 29th of December (2010) and a day later (31st ) we celebrated Leanne's (our first daughter)

12th. It's amazing how fast kids grow up and also how fast time flies. It was only like yesterday (the memories still fresh) that Leanne was born. In fact, given all the nagging from the kids and parental responsibilities that keep us busy we hardly thought about how long it has taken us. And lo and behold birthdays are important sign posts that make us reflect on this.
All our girls are special to us. Because of this we  had to drop the initial proposal of putting one grand party on the new year's eve --to cover the birthdays and all. Rather, we provided a sixth birthday cake and party for Lois on the 29th December (2010) and similarly followed by Leanne's 12th the next day. This was made to make them feel special and vise versa for us. We also had the pleasure of having Fiona Alofa, Joanne's younger sister, who is

spending the summer holidays with us, to join in the celebrations. It was good to have Fiona around us once again as she has had a hand in the kids upbringing. The birthday song was sung on both occasions and we all enjoyed the food and cake party. From Joanne and I, happy birthday to Leanne and Lois.
